Brighton 3-0 Chelsea: Blues' Champions League hopes damaged beyond repair after latest embarrassment

Liam Rosenior’s side slip out of top six after uninspired performance on south coast

Chelsea ’s chances of qualifying for the Champions League this season are all but shot after they slumped to seventh in the table following a turgid 2-0 defeat at Brighton .

The Blues lined up in an experimental three-at-the-back formation at the AmEx and promptly discovered it was not a winning formula, as Ferdi Kadioglu opened the scoring three minutes in.

Jack Hinshelwood missed a one-on-one shortly before the break and Chelsea were slightly improved after it, but he was there to double the hosts’ advantage mere minutes into the second-half.

The Blues could not find a way back into the match - even before Danny Welbecks’ late third - and have now lost five consecutive Premier League matches, failing to score in any of them.
