Carrick confirms he was forced into line-up change tonight after United mainstay felt slight injury problem after Everton

Michael Carrick has revealed that Luke Shaw felt a slight problem following Manchester United’s 2-2 draw with Everton last weekend.
As a result, he has been omitted from the matchday squad tonight, but only for precautionary reasons.

Carrick is clearly of the belief that his side will be able to get the job done against the Azerbaijan outfit without his first-choice – as well as the only senior – left-back in the team.
Youngster Harry Amass is on the bench, while Patrick Dorgu has had to revert back to the backline after spending the best part of the year occupying an attacking role on the left wing.
Yet, he’ll presumably have been made aware when INEOS opted against signing a full-back that he would have to deputise in the position whenever Shaw was unavailable.

“He (Shaw) came off the other day with a little bit of cramp, so we didn’t want to take any risks really. We tried to manage him, but we’ll see how he is after this one,” Carrick told TNT Sports ahead of kick-off.
He’ll be crossing his fingers that Shaw, who missed training at Carrington on Wednesday, is deemed fully fit in time to play in the Manchester derby on Sunday.
Manchester City are unbeaten this season and have been granted 48 hours of additional rest due to their Champions League opener being on Tuesday night away to Porto.
United do have the home advantage, but Carrick will undoubtedly be feeling aggrieved at how the clubs’ European fixtures were scheduled in the lead-up to such a crucial encounter.
In the meantime, getting off on the right foot in the UCL is imperative for the Reds this evening.
