Como coach Fabregas: ‘Leipzig clash an important match for our history’

Como head coach Cesc Fàbregas described his side’s debut Champions League fixture against RB Leipzig as a historic milestone for the club, while insisting his players must treat it like any other match.

The Lariani host the German side at the Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia on Thursday evening for their first-ever appearance in Europe’s elite competition, a dramatic step in the club’s rapid ascent under Fàbregas.

Speaking to Como TV ahead of the evening kick-off, via TuttoMercatoWeb, the Spanish tactician reflected on the significance of the occasion.

“It is an important match for us, for our history, and for everyone at Como,” Fàbregas stated. “At the same time, we have to be ourselves and play a good game against a top team. Leipzig are very organized, so it will be a great test.”

Fabregas: ‘Como need to play the perfect match’

Fàbregas emphasized that despite the magnitude of the European clash, he chose not to give any special pre-match speeches to avoid unsettling his squad.

“I didn’t say anything out of the ordinary,” Fàbregas revealed. “If I said something different, they might think it’s a completely different kind of game. Instead, I want them to approach it exactly as we always do.”

Addressing the challenge posed by the Bundesliga side, Fàbregas added: “We analyze every opponent to see what they do well, but the most important thing is having the conviction that we need to play the perfect match to get three points in the Champions League. They have a very clear identity, clear structures, and very strong players across the pitch, both on the flanks and in central defense. But I believe in my team.”
