David De Gea has hailed his former Manchester United colleague and interim head coach Michael Carrick for the 'unbelievable' work he is delivering at Old Trafford. United have suffered just one defeat since Carrick assumed control in January and are well positioned to secure European football, currently sitting third in the table.
The Spanish shot-stopper returned to England on Thursday evening as Fiorentina took on Crystal Palace in the Conference League quarter-final at Selhurst Park. The Italian outfit face a massive challenge in the return fixture in Florence following a 3-0 loss.
Speaking to TNT Sports following the encounter, De Gea , who played alongside Carrick between 2011 and 2017, was questioned about the 44-year-old's return to United. "He's doing unbelievable," the goalkeeper said.

"He's a great guy, he knows how the players feel, so it's easy to talk with him. He's doing an amazing job, United is winning a lot of games now, playing well.
"Hopefully we can get the Champions League spot and keep growing, growing, and let's see United again in the high positions and fighting for trophies."
Carrick remains a strong favourite for the permanent managerial position at Old Trafford, with winger Amad throwing his weight behind the former midfielder as the 'right man' for the job and hinting at similar sentiments throughout the dressing room.

"Obviously it's not for us as a player to decide his future, but he's been very good, he's been doing so much for the team," Amad said.
"He has a lot of experience, he knows the club and has the DNA. We think he's the right man.

"He knows the club, he played for the club, so he has great experience to manage this club. Sometimes this kind of manager can bring a club where they belong."
United return to Premier League action on Monday following the March international break, when Carrick's side welcome Leeds United to Old Trafford, with kick-off scheduled for 8pm.
