Jadon Sancho: Unai Emery provides fitness update on Man United loanee
Aston Villa boss Unai Emery recently issued an injury update on Manchester United man Jadon Sancho as he continues with his recovery from a shoulder injury.
Sancho picked up the issue during last month’s international break, while featuring for Villa during a 2-1 friendly loss to Spanish outfit Elche.
He started the game but only lasted 40 minutes as he landed awkwardly on his shoulder.
The England international was quickly removed from the pitch and his arm put in a makeshift sling. He was replaced by striker Ollie Watkins.
Last week, a report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that Sancho is set to miss a minimum of two to three weeks with the shoulder injury.
It was stated that subsequent scans on the 25-year-old revealed that he had not dislocated his shoulder but instead has a joint issue in the shoulder.
Speaking to the press on Wednesday ahead of his side’s Europa League meeting with Bologna, Emery confirmed that Sancho would miss the clash, while also providing an update on his fitness.
Emery said, “Sancho is not going to be out for a long time, but he is still out.”
“In a few days or one or two weeks, he is coming back. He is progressing well. He is not available for tomorrow.”
From Emery’s remarks, it looks like Sancho is also highly likely to miss Villa’s trip to Nottingham Forest on Sunday as well as the second leg of the Europa League quarter-final next Thursday.
In Sancho’s absence, Villa beat Bologna 3-1 to gain a massive advantage ahead of the return leg. Ezri Konsa’s goal and a Watkins double were enough to secure victory for the Birmingham club at the Renato Dall’Ara Stadium.
Meanwhile, United are next in action on Monday when they host historic rivals Leeds United at Old Trafford.
