The Sun reported Chelsea legend Terry is part of a consortium spearheading a £14million bid to take control of the League Two outfit. It's uncertain exactly what percentage Terry is aiming to take personally but a glittering career has given him the means to evolve his involvement in the sport where he once reigned supreme.

Regarded as one of the greatest centre-backs in history, Terry's career saw him win five Premier League titles, six FA Cups, three League Cups, the Champions League and the Europa League . The Englishman was also the highest-paid player in England at one point in is career, though his peak earnings of around £150,000 per week pale in comparison to today.
Still, it formed the bedrock for an extremely lucrative career spent almost exclusively in the Premier League. Terry's only season spent outside the top tier came with Aston Villa in the Championship directly before he retired in 2018.
He has also had coaching stints in different capacities with the likes of Villa, Leicester City and his beloved Chelsea. However, it's his playing days and outside investments that will form the basis for his approximate net worth of around £40m .
If true, it serves to illustrate just what kind of contribution Terry can make for Colchester. And it also opens the field up to him potentially purchasing a larger stake in the club if all goes to plan.
Separate to that war chest is the riches Terry has raised in the past for charitable causes. And he's even sold off plenty of his own memorabilia and sporting pieces in order to encourage some massive donations.
This includes a match-worn Cristiano Ronaldo Manchester United jersey (sold for roughly £84,000), trophies and shin pads. However, the biggest seller was a Lionel Messi shirt he wore when Barcelona beat Chelsea 1-0 in a Champions League group-stage clash in 2006.

That fetched an astronomical £133,000, all of which went to the John Terry Foundation. All in all, the lot sale of Terry's hard-earned showpieces went for around £500,000.
It's worth noting the these particular funds went to charity and won't have been seen by Terry himself, however.
Having kept in close contact with football since retiring from the playing side, it seemed only a matter of time before Terry was back. And a stake in Colchester may be but the beginning of his increased involvement.
The former 78-cap England defender reportedly could not wait for the takeover announcement to be made public. And that suggests he'll be eager to get his work underway in a boardroom capacity as soon as the deal is rubber-stamped.
It's speculated Terry will have significant influence on the day-to-day operations. And for good reason, too, considering his nephew, Frankie, is on the books there (though currently on loan at Braintree Town).
