Liverpool have moved ahead of Manchester United in the race for Bournemouth defender Marcos Senesi, with the South Coast club’s exodus set to continue. Boss Andoni Iraola has already confirmed that he will leave this summer at the end of his deal.
His exit follows a brutal season in which the Cherries bid farewell to Antoine Semenyo, Ilia Zabarnyi, Dean Huijsen, Milos Kerkez and Dango Ouattara, among others. But the departures are not expected to end there.
Argentinian defender Senesi is out of contract at the end of the season and he has earned admiring glances from a host of Premier League rivals. According to i News , Liverpool is his most likely destination should he decide to leave the Vitality Stadium.
The Reds are in need of a new central defender, with Virgil van Dijk now 34 and Ibrahima Konate out of contract this summer. Giovanni Leoni also remains ruled out with a long-term knee injury.

Liverpool have already secured a deal to sign Jeremy Jacquet for Rennes for £60m , but Senesi is seen as a more experienced option. The former Feyenoord defender, 28, joined Bournemouth in 2022 and has gone on to make 121 appearances.
Man United and Chelsea have also been linked with him, but neither are expected to make a move. Aston Villa , Everton and Tottenham Hotspur have also been touted as admirers, albeit Senesi has yet to make a decision over his long-term future.
Speaking in February, Bournemouth boss Iraola said: “Yes, I think the situation is still open. I think it’s not easy. We have references from all the seasons, and sometimes they decide to re-sign, sometimes not. But I don’t think Marcos has taken any decision.”

Senesi also reportedly had interest from overseas, with Italian duo Juventus and Roma eyeing him. The former carried out checks but informed the defender’s representatives that he wouldn’t be a guaranteed starter in Turin so have chosen not to move for him.
While a decision is reached, Bournemouth will be aiming to round off Iraola’s final season positively. The Cherries currently sit 11th in the Premier League table but are just three points behind sixth-placed Chelsea and have a genuine opportunity to secure a place in Europe.
Qualification would likely help Bournemouth keep some of their key players next season. Young forward Eli Junior Kroupi has also been linked with a switch to Man Utd , having netted ten goals across what has been an impressive debut season following his arrival from French side Lorient.
