Mail: The four clubs most likely to sign £42m Man Utd ‘engine’ amid Premier League interest

Manuel Ugarte could well have his pick of the bunch when he departs Manchester United this summer.

Despite the midfielder having three years remaining on his deal following his £42 million (£50.5m including add-ons) switch in August 2024, it’s expected he will be sold in the upcoming window after failing to impress in the two seasons he’s spent in M16.

Monday night’s defeat to Leeds United only highlighted why he’s set to be transfer-listed, as Ugarte oversaw a particularly shoddy showing in his first start under Michael Carrick .

He was only recalled to the XI due to Kobbie Mainoo being ruled out with a minor injury, and proceeded to continue a dismal streak of winning only one game (against Newcastle United on Boxing Day) in the 10 starts he’s made this term.

Hailed as a ‘midfield engine’ by his national team’s official X/Twitter account, the newly-turned 25-year-old may have to wait until Uruguay’s World Cup campaign comes to an end before he finalises his next club.

In regard to the options he might have, Ugarte has, surprisingly, been linked with Newcastle United in recent weeks , with the Magpies seemingly preparing for Sandro Tonali’s departure.

However, MailSport has sought to squash the speculation, instead listing a quartet of more likely suitors for the former Sporting CP man, those being Ajax, Galatasaray, Napoli and Juventus.

It remains to be seen what kind of fee INEOS would demand, especially given it’s now public knowledge that they’re pretty desperate to get rid of him and reinvest the funds on a replacement.
