Manchester United are interested in signing Fulham ’s Sander Berge to reinforce their midfield this summer.
With Michael Carrick now in place as their new permanent head coach, United have made rebuilding their midfield a priority with a deal to sign Ederson from Atalanta already in place.
With Elliot Anderson seemingly out of reach , they have also made Mateus Fernandes a top target with talks underway to bring the West Ham star to Old Trafford .
United want to sign at least two midfielders this summer – three should Manuel Ugarte leave the club.

Carlos Baleba , Sandro Tonali, Alex Scott and Adam Wharton are also among a list of targets but The Athletic now report Berge is another option United are weighing up.
The 28-year-old, currently with the Norway squad at the World Cup, could be considered a cheaper alternative to some of their more high-profile targets although the Cottagers would want to make a profit on the £25million they spent bringing him to Craven Cottage two years ago.
Berge could be viewed as a Premier League-proven replacement for Ugarte with United eager to add to their options ahead of their return to the Champions League.

United are also keen to bring in a left winger to bolster their attack with Crysencio Summerville of the names now under serious consideration.
The 24-year-old impressed in east London last season despite the Hammers’ relegation to the Championship, further enhancing his reputation with a superb goal for Netherlands in their World Cup opener against Japan on Sunday night.

The Athletic report United are paying ‘serious attention’ to the 24-year-old and have enquired into move. West Ham value the former Leeds United star at £50million.
United are light on natural wide options on the left although Patrick Dorgu could now be considered as such having impressed in a more advanced role in the second half of last season.
