Rosenior says Chelsea were ‘dominant’ in defeat to Man Utd – and gives injury update on duo

Liam Rosenior says his Chelsea side’s “dominance” was not rewarded in their defeat to Manchester United .

Chelsea suffered their sixth defeat in seven games in all competitions and fourth Premier League loss in a row without scoring as Matheus Cunha scored the only goal of the game .

“Tonight, especially, was a really difficult result to take,” Rosenior said after the game.

“They’ve had one shot on our goal when we’re down to 10 men off an injury and score and then we have wave after wave of attack, crosses in the box, moments that we don’t take advantage of. I think we’ve hit the woodwork four or five times.

“What we can’t do is get into a cycle where we feel like it’s not going to be our day or we feel sorry for ourselves because we have to keep working.

“We have to turn this around. But I will never lie, I can’t speak on things that I don’t see. I saw a team that were dominant. We were dominant from the first moment of the game to the last but we have to take care of our moments better. That’s what’s costing us points at this moment in time.”

To make matters worse for Chelsea , winger Estevao was forced off early on and Rosenior confirmed he has suffered a hamstring injury.

“He was devastated,” Rosenior said. “He was crying at half-time. Really devastated for him.

“It looks like it’s his hamstring. That’s a moment when he’s running through on their goal for a 1v1 and pulls his hamstring in that moment.

“They’re good lads, I have to say. They’re honest, they’re working hard. I don’t want them to feel like everything is against them. I hope Este comes back sooner rather than later.”

Enzo Fernandez also suffered an injury worry on his return to the Chelsea team following his two-game suspension imposed by the club.

“I just saw him in the dressing room. I think it was his calf. I’m hoping it’s cramp,” Rosenior said.

“He’s getting work on it right now because we want him obviously fit for Tuesday. I think it is down to the fact that he ran himself into the ground for the club tonight and I expect nothing different from a man of his stature and his quality.”

Rosenior admits his side now have a mountain to climb if they are to secure Champions League football next season.

“It gives us a mountain to climb,2 he said. “It’s not insurmountable but it gives us a mountain to climb and we have to go into Brighton with an idea that we have to win that game and then kickstart the rest of our season.”
