Tearful Frank Lampard gets emotional after Coventry City promotion during TV interview

Frank Lampard fought back tears live on TV after leading Coventry City to promotion to the Premier League . The Sky Blues' return to the top flight was confirmed after a 1-1 draw with Blackburn Rovers.
Bobby Thomas' 84th-minute equaliser was enough to get the club over the line , with them leading the way at the top of the Championship table all season. It came after Ryoya Morishita's 54th-minute opener, which threatened to delay the party of the 7,000-plus travelling fans.
Speaking live on Sky Sports following the draw, Lampard was clearly emotional with his voice cracking slightly. "It makes me feel emotional becaused they (the squad) are so great to work with and they deserve every second of celebrating," he said.

"This League is hard, even teams fighting for relegation...people think it's easy and it's not. It's getting harder.
"I am proud of myself and the boys and the staff.
"We went into a bit of an unknown but we have fallen in love, with the players how they have reacted and how the fanbase has reacted."
Lampard joined Coventry in November 2024, replacing long-term boss Mark Robins at the club. He led the side to the play-offs last season, with them suffering heartbreak in the semi-final against eventual winners Sunderland .

He has recently been named as one of the potential candidates to take over from the departing Andoni Iraola at Bournemouth . However, it seems that the Cherries are closing in on a move for former Borussia Dortmund boss Marco Rose.
Lampard last managed in the Premier League as Chelsea caretaker manager in 2023. His final game was a 1-1 draw with Newcastle at Stamford Bridge.
Coventry's aim will now be to win the Championship title. The Sky Blues are 11 points ahead of second-placed Ipswich with three games of the season remaining, the Tractor Boys do, however, have two games in hand.
Coventry's return to the Premier League comes 25 years after they last played in the top tier.
