World Cup presenter in 'deep shock' following sudden death of colleague

Rebecca Lowe has revealed that she and her NBC Sports colleagues are in "deep shock" following the tragic death of a fellow team member, Wendy. Lowe, who has fronted NBC's Premier League coverage since 2013, is currently on secondment to rival network FOX, heading up their World Cup broadcasting alongside Thierry Henry, Zlatan Ibrahimovic , and Alexi Lalas .

Late on Monday night, Lowe turned to social media to pay a moving tribute to her NBC colleague Wendy, who has sadly passed away.

"Our Wendy. The NBC Sports Family are in deep shock today, mourning the loss of our wonderful Wendy," Lowe wrote on Instagram , posting a collection of photographs of Wendy. "She wasn't one for photos so thank you @gab_angelique for sending these beautiful pictures and how fitting that they should be of Wendy with so many of the young people she helped.

"That will be one of her many legacies. She positively affected young people's lives, giving them a chance, opening a door and for that she will be remembered through the lives of so, so many. Our love and hearts go out to her family to whom she was so dedicated. And that word 'dedicated' sums her up.

"She was always there for her NBC family, for her work and for others. We are thankful to have been touched by Wendy and will never forget her.

"She was a marvel and we hold her family, friends and all the young people at NBC in our hearts. With our love always."

Lowe was far from the only NBC figure to honour Wendy's memory.

Former Premier League midfielder Robbie Mustoe, who appears alongside Lowe on NBC's coverage of the league, posted: "It's really hard to say just how special Wendy was in our NBC family.

"She cared so much about making our lives easier... Supporting us in so many ways for so long. This is really heartbreaking. I should have told her more about how much I appreciated her. This is devastating."

Ex-USMNT, Manchester United and Everton goalkeeper Tim Howard also paid his respects, saying: "Truly one of the best to do it. She will be missed dearly."

The exact nature of Wendy's position within the NBC Sports team remains unclear. What is beyond doubt, however, is the profound affection her colleagues held for her, with many following Mustoe and Howard's lead by sharing their own heartfelt messages.

"This is absolutely heartbreaking. The most caring and selfless woman who took care of everyone she worked with. She will be so missed," one colleague posted.

A further tribute read: "One of the most caring people I've ever met in my life.
