Manchester United are clearly keeping tabs on the World Cup if the latest transfer links are anything to go by. The two most recent names added to the rumour mill have each been impressing already in North America this summer and could take their show to Old Trafford.

Michael Carrick 's summer recruitment has already seen the Red Devils associated with a range of squad positions. However, one area that's rarely far from the headlines concerns midfield, which seemingly remains the highest priority for the manager in his first summer at the helm.

There's a new name on the block, however, who could find himself playing opposite a very familiar face in the near future. Mirror Football sizes up the latest rumblings surrounding the Theatre of Dreams this week.

Mateus Fernandes isn't the only West Ham asset currently drawing attention from United . That's after The Athletic reported Netherlands winger Crysencio Summerville has also piqued interest with decision-makers at Old Trafford.

The Hammers supposedly need to raise around £120million through players sales this summer following their relegation from the Premier League . However, Summerville could bring in almost half that amount single-handedly amid reports the club would demand around £50m for his signature.

That may well be within reach for United, particularly after the 24-year-old continued his upwards trajectory at the World Cup. He scored his first international goal in Sunday's 2-2 draw against Japan , having steadily built into a valued commodity at West Ham since joining the club from Leeds almost two years ago.

The east Londoners stand to double their money from the £25m they shelled out to sign Summerville in August 2024. United have played Matheus Cunha on the left intermittently but would ideally like to keep the Brazilian more central.

Carrick's side were in the fight to sign Antoine Semeneyo for that role in January but lost out to rivals Manchester City . It now appears United are back in the market for a new face on the left wing and Summerville is yet to raise the same level of competition.

United have already warned West Ham they won't be held to ransom in their race to sign Portugal midfielder Fernandes, whose valued at £80m. And they may be tempted to take the same hardline stance in their efforts to tempt Summerville.

Another goalscorer in North America already this summer, Germany's Felix Nmecha has also been touted for a return to Manchester . An expansive midfield hunt has now led United to the doors of Borussia Dortmund , though Nmecha's services wouldn't come cheap.

After being unfortunate not to bag a hat-trick in the 7-1 hammering of Curacao , Nmecha put the football world on alert. However, United appear well-educated on the player considering they were linked with a move back in February.

Nmecha, 25, has already played in Manchester given he was once on the academy books with neighbours City. Both he and older brother Lukas left for Wolfsburg in 2021, though box-to-box star Felix moved on again to Dortmund just two years later.

Lukas remained at Wolfsburg until last year when he accepted a move to Leeds, helping the club attain Premier League survival last term. And that's just another reason why a move back to the Manchester area might appeal.

Sky Germany reported the Black and Yellows will seek a fee in the region of £61m to sell their midfielder. And while that's no chump change, it also appears to be within United's budget and is not as daunting as the fees being associated with other linked names.

One potential obstacle comes from Real Madrid considering new boss Jose Mourinho is allegedly a fan of Nmecha's, too. And the ex-United coach may come back to bite his former club this summer if he pips them to emerging Germany gem.
